Comparative Politics

5 cr

Intermediate studies

The course introduces students to the different political systems and political practices in countries outside Finland. Themes may relate to different political systems, such as democracies, authoritarian, presidential, parliamentary, and federalist systems; differences in administrative and decision-making systems; electoral systems, parties, and participation; interaction and media systems. The course may also focus on comparing different political phenomena: in this case, the systems are part of the context and are adopted in the comparison process rather than focusing directly on them and on country-specific (or internal) systemic differences.
