Freedom of Expression and Communication Rights

After completing the course, students will be familiar with various notions of freedom of speech and with other civil and human rights related to media and communication. They will understand how communication policy and social power structures influence the media and its operations as well as citizens’ access to information. Students will also be able to critically discuss ethical and communication policy questions related to the contemporary media landscape.

Book examination: Students who complete the entire course as a book examination choose three works from the course literature.  

Completion methods
1) Osallistuminen opetukseen: Luento-opetus ja harjoitustehtävät tai luentokuulustelu. Viestinnän opintosuunnan opiskelijoiden edellytetään pääsääntöisesti osallistuvan luentokurssille.
2) Tentti: Kirjallisuuskuulustelussa tentitään kolme teosta. Hyväksytty suoritus korvaa jakson kokonaisuudessaan. Kuulustelu tulee suorittaa yhdessä osassa.

Opintojakso voidaan tarjota myös avoimena yliopisto-opetuksena. The completion methods will be specified in the teaching programme.

Target groups
Luento-opetus on tarkoitettu ensisijaisesti viestinnän opintosuunnan opiskelijoille ja ohjelman vaihto-opiskelijoille, jos kurssin opetuskieli on englanti. Muiden opintosuuntien ja ohjelmien opiskelijat voivat osallistua, jos kurssilla on tilaa.

Depending on available student places, contact teaching is available also to students of other degree programmes.

Mahdollinen avoimena yliopisto-opetuksena järjestettävä opetus ja sen opiskelijamäärä määritellään erikseen vuosittaisessa opetusohjelmassa.

• for students for whom Media and Communication is the second study track

Opintojakso on vaihtoehtoinen

• muiden ohjelmien opiskelijoille, jotka suorittavat opintokokonaisuuksia PVK-V525 tai PVK-V535.

Järjestämisajankohta/-kohdat
Luentokurssi vuosittain, periodi 3. Kirjallisuuskuulustelun ajankohdat määritellään vuosittaisessa opetusohjelmassa. Avoimen yliopisto-opetuksen toteutuksista päätetään vuosittain opetusohjelman vahvistamisen yhteydessä.
