Approaches to Latin American Studies

No prerequisites required for the course

After completing the course, students will have a broad knowledge of diverse interdisciplinary approaches to Latin American studies and major trends in the field. Students will also have appropriate tools to explore their own interests and topics for their master’s thesis.

Assessment practices and criteria

The course is graded on a scale of 0-5. Various methods are used in the assessment of the course such as active participation in classes, oral presentations, lecture diaries, written essays to promote the development of analytical skills and critical interpretation.

Activities and methods in support of learning

Lecturing, readings, individual or group work, in-class discussion.

Target groups

The course is obligatory for Latin American studies’ students in the Area and Cultural studies master’s programme. The course is open for other study units in the master's programme in Area and Cultural Studies and other degree student programmes, but priority is given to students of Latin American studies.

Recommended time or stage of studies for completion

The course is recommended to be completed in the first year of the master’s programme in Area and Cultural Studies
