Modern state and civil society (Political History)

The course covers the development of state structures, citizenship, and political activity in the context of power relations, conflicts, and democratisation processes in a modernising society. Students are introduced to the formation of the modern nation-state, the development of civil society, publicity, and social movements, as well as the struggles over the meanings, contents, and forms of democracy. They will also learn about different research perspectives.
