Förkunskaper (allmän beskrvining)

KSV-101

Courses in any form of public law - international (KSV-RV213, eller KSV-RV217) or domestic (KSV-RV101 etc.) are a great advantage for this course. Without such prior knowledge students must be prepared for additional readings.

Rekommenderade förkunskaper

After the course the student:

Will be able to give an account of the sources of law of the law of migration and fundamental concepts,
Know the EU-legal foundations for migration and asylum, i.a. concerning the free movement within the EU, ordinary migration to the EU and the former EU-system for asylum,
Be able to to give an account of the basics for when refugee-status is given, other international protection is given or other rights of residency are granted,
Know the rights of migrants in accordance with human rights conventions and EU-law i. a. as they relate to the right to family life
Know the legal framework for border control, return and custody of migrants.

The directives and regulations that make up the Common European Asylum system. (The revised Dublin Regulation, The revised Reception Conditions Directive, The revised Asylum Procedures Directive, The revised Qualification Directive)
NB! The EU member states are currently negotiating changes to the asylum system. Those who take book exam will be examinated based on Boeles, whereas the EU-negotiations and possible new directives will be taken account of during the lecture course and the course-exam.

Bedömningsmetoder och kriterier

Målgrupper

Second year students or later, including students at the Masters level. Open for all students at the University of Helsinki. First priority is given to students from the Bachelor’s Programme in Social Sciences (KSV). Second priority is given to students from the Master’s Programme in European and Nordic Studies.
