KIK-LG204 Introduction to the languages of the world and language typology (or equivalent)

Having completed the course the student has demonstrated an ability to

• understand and discuss fundamental theoretical and methodological concepts within the field of language typology
• practically apply typological methods of data collection and analysis, on both unfamiliar linguistic data and to see familiar data in a new light
• review, discuss and present research papers in the field of linguistic typology
• integrate knowledge and analyse, assess and handle complex phenomena and questions in the field of linguistic typology

Completion methods:

The course will be offered in the form of contact teaching.

Attendance requirements will be discussed at course start.

Assessment practices and criteria:

Student presentations and/or final essay and/or learning diary; other assessment methods may also apply.

Grading scale:

0-5

The assessment practices used are directly linked to the learning outcomes and teaching methods of the course.

Activities and methods in support of learning:

The course will consist of lectures, group discussions, small research projects, presentations by students and/or other suitable activities.

Target groups:

Elective.

The course is available to students from other study tracks and other degree programmes.
