This introduction course offers basic knowledge about sexual and gender diversity in Nordic social work and health care. Course materials are based on the current research about sexual and gender minorities (LGBTQIA+) living in the Nordic countries, and researchers and experts on this topic have contributed to the course material production. The course is designed for students in higher education programs (e.g. social work, nursing), but this course can also give research-based information to support work of professionals in social and healthcare fields.

Learning outcomes

After finishing the course, you will be able to:

1. Identify the key terminology about sexual and gender diversity as well as the key aspects of LGBTQIA+ history in the Nordic societies

2. Understand the current disparities on health and living conditions of LGBTQIA+ populations in the Nordic societies

3. Identify the key social and healthcare needs of LGBTQIA+ populations from a life course perspective

4. Describe ways that support LGBTQIA+ affirmative practice in health or social care
