Spanish for Beginners I

Prerequisites

No prior skills required.

After completing the course, students will

• Have familiarised themselves with the basics of the Spanish language (see the primary grammar content below).
• Be able to engage in elementary interaction (greetings, introductions, talking about yourself, everyday situations, studies, travel-related situations).
• Understand and be able to produce simple speech.
• Be able to utilise collaborative skills and a multilingual environment in information retrieval.

Completion methods

There are several completion methods for the course: see the group-specific information for a particular group.

The course includes a great deal of pair and small group work as well as listening comprehension exercises. Vocabulary and grammar are practised through oral and written assignments.

Teaching will be on site or online depending on the course.

• Active participation (75% attendance) and completion of agreed assignments in the time allotted.
• Assignments assessed during the course and end-of-course assignment/examination (see group-specific information).
• 48 hours of contact or online teaching (4 cr) and 60 hours of independent study.

Assessment methods and criteria

Course assessment focuses on the areas defined in the learning outcomes.

Successful completion requires regular and active participation in lectures and Moodle activities, as well as the completion of the required assignments.

Assessment practices: Continuous assessment, feedback by the teacher,
self-assessment and peer assessment (see group-specific information).
