Recommended prerequisites: KIG-C1010 Introduction to geoinformatics

• Can handle the basics of geodetic, photogrammetric and laser scanning data collection, as well as reference systems and georeferencing
• Knows the behavior of electromagnetic radiation in image formation
• Is familiar with various passive and active imaging techniques and their various imaging platforms, such as satellites, aircraft, UAVs, land vehicles etc.
• Understands the importance of calibrating the measurement systems and sensors used for collecting environmental data
• Knows how to edit and clean up collected environmental data
• Is able to combine environmental data sets with the aid of coordinate transformations, map projections and geoid models
• Is able to exploit electromagnetic radiation to visualize and classify environmental features visible in images
• Is able to construct a 3D model of an object in the environment by various means of data collection
• Has a mental image of the mapping and data collecting processes as a whole, and how they lead into models that represent environment or activities in society
• Is aware of the significance of observing the environment for monitoring the Earth's energy household and the ongoing changes in the Earth system, the functions of society and living environment
