Ikääntyneiden palvelujen kehittäminen ja johtaminen (Master’s) path, blended studies, 15 cr

The pathway studies in the development and management of services for older people comprise 15 ECTS credits of first-year studies in accordance with the degree programme curriculum. Completing the pathway studies takes one semester. After completing the pathway studies, you may apply to become a degree student via a separate application route. You may apply to become a degree student once you have completed 15 ECTS credits of first-year studies in accordance with the degree curriculum.
In all pathway routes within Master’s degree programmes at UAS level (YAMK), the prerequisite qualification is a relevant Bachelor’s degree at UAS level (AMK).
Teaching is delivered remotely and includes meetings via Zoom video connection, online studies, and independent study. Teaching takes place on average 2–3 weekdays per month during daytime, and studies progress in accordance with the timetable. Study does not require attendance at Metropolia’s Myllypuro campus in Helsinki.
The pathway comprises a total of 15 ECTS credits, i.e. the following study units:
Research Methods and Skills 5 ECTS
Gerontological Expertise in Services for Older People 5 ECTS
Interactive Leadership in Transforming Work that Promotes Wellbeing 5 ECTS
You can view the timetable in Lukkarikone using the group code you will receive at the start of your studies. Timetables are published one semester at a time, but please note that changes are possible. The autumn 2026 timetable will be published in May 2026.
After completing the pathway studies, you may apply to become a degree student via a separate application route. Admission as a degree student requires meeting the eligibility criteria for the YAMK degree.
The language of instruction is primarily Finnish. The study units use Finnish- and English-language materials. In Finnish-taught degree programmes, students should have at least level B2 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) in Finnish and English across all skill areas. Students are responsible for ensuring that they have sufficient Finnish and English language skills for higher education studies. Many Finnish-taught degree programmes regularly use English-language study materials.
