Sustainable welfare, Sustainability course II, 2 cr

This course is for students in students in Faculty of Social Science programs who wish to deepen their sustainability knowledge from SUST-001 Sustainability with a field-specific course.
Note: this course is a shorter version SOSM-YP302 Sustainable Welfare (5 credits). If you wish to complete both this course and SOSM-YP302, there will be alternative assignments available for the course you take later.
What are well-being, welfare, equality and inclusion, when viewed through the lens of sustainability? When is welfare sustainable? Are our current approaches based on sound philosophy and ethical grounds? How welfare could be provided in a more sustainable manner? The course discusses the concepts of sustainability from a global and Finnish perspective with reference to the welfare state system. The course introduces students to discourse critical to the concepts of development, sustainability and well-being, The multidisciplinary course reader provides a broad understanding of sustainability and the connections between all dimensions of sustainability. The course focuses on tools for searching for sustainable policy solutions to promote human wellbeing.
