Place-Based Management on a Global Scale

Sufficient oral and written English language skills; sufficient capacity for electronic participation.

By the end of the course students will: see a connection between nature, politics, culture and technology, as well as holistic nature of global change in general, learn how to describe some of the central processes which are behind global change, understand how global networks and phenomena are relational but can be managed and utilised on the local level.
Students will also be encouraged to apply previously learned studies and knowledge of the society in a global change setting by inspecting their root causes in a critical and exploratory manner.

The course reinforces the ability to analyze and interpret public activities and their operational environment from the perspective of organizations and regions, and the ability to develop the operations of organizations, regions, and networks by considering their specific characteristics. Additionally, the students will develop their problem-solving skills and critical thinking. In terms of sustainable development, the goal is to learn to develop effective, responsible, and transparent institutions at all levels, as well as learn to promote the progress of sustainable cities and communities.

Teaching materials will be shared on the courses Moodle-page. They consist of videos, articles, news, figures, slides and statistics.

Course can be independently studied online. Lecture diaries can be returned at the end of the period.
