The History of Karelia

Study unit is available only in Finnish. Please change the language to Finnish in Peppi and read the description in Finnish. Upon completion of the course, the student - knows the overall picture of the history and population development of the Karelian region in Russia and Finland - knows how the location of the Karelian region at the border of two countries has affected its history - knows which historical events and stages have been especially significant for the Karelian people and the Karelian language The course develops the following work life skills: knowledge of the Karelian history as a part of expert work on the Karelian language or the Karelian culture; grasping large concepts, separating the relevant from the irrelevant; condensing information into own text; (mode of study 3) using sources, reading scientific texts, independent searching of information and source criticism, writing coherent text based on read text, connecting own perspectives to read research data Generic competences: internationality, critical thinking, identification and development of expertise

Time: All modes of study: entire academic year, no appointed submission or examination date. If you wish to complete the course in the summer, arrange the matter with the responsible teacher by the end of May.
