Karelian and Russian

Upon completion of the course, the student is able to: - recognise and use the Cyrillic alphabet - utilise Russian dictionaries - describe the historical frame and current status of language contacts between Russian and Karelian - explain what kinds of consequences the language contact has had - apply the terms of multilingualism, multiculturalism, and code-switching in the Karelian-Russian context The course develops the following work life skills: knowledge on the Russian language and the language contacts between Russian and Karelian, which can be utilised in the work of a Karelian language expert, language revitalisation, and language planning. Planning own work and time management. Information searching, reading scientific texts, source criticism, writing coherent text. Information technological skills.

Campus: Joensuu Time: Entire academic year, no appointed submission date. If you wish to complete the course in the summer, arrange the matter with the responsible teacher by the end of May.
