Elements of Biochemistry

After completing the course the student understands the chemical structure of biological macromolecules and the forces needed for forming and maintaining the compounds. Student will be able to connect the structure and function of biological macromolecules and understand the energetics of biochemical reactions as well as the importance of enzymes for these processes.

Time: During the fall semester, contact meetings will be held especially for degree students at campuses, at day-time. Participation on the contact meetings is also possible online at evenings. Students may also study the course in the spring semester during which the contact meetings will be held online at evenings. Offering data: Basic studies in environmental and biological studies and biochemistry (compulsory). The course is available for everyone. Campus: Joensuu, Kuopio The lectures are given in Finnish. Course is part of a larger lecture module Elements of cellular and molecular biology. The whole module introducing students into cell biology, biochemistry and molecular biology is recommended to be studied during the same class year.
