Border Karelian dialects

Upon completion of the course, the student can - recount the history of the Border Karelian region and languages used there during different times as well as the history of the displaced Border Karelians - describe the position and special character of Border Karelian dialects among other Karelian dialects - depict the consequences of the Karelian-Finnish language contact - recognise the study of Border Karelian dialects as well as the methods available for their study The course develops the following working life skills: knowledge of Border Karelian dialects that can be utilised in tasks requiring language expertise, in language revitalisation, teaching and language planning; data searching, reading scientific text, source criticism; writing cohesive text; management of time and oneself.

Time: the entire academic year; no predetermined deadline. If you want to complete the course in summer, arrange the details with the coordinating teacher by the end of May. Offering data: Minor students of Karelian, students of Finnish, the Open University and continuous learning as well as JOO-students. Language of tuition: Finnish and Karelian.
