A description for students of data processing in the Student's Wellbeing and Life Skills course
This course unit is optional for the student.
Completing the course unit is based on the use of the Student's Compass (OK). The Student's Compass is a web-based well-being and life skills programme developed and provided by the University of Jyväskylä, in which the student studies the information content independently or with support during the course. To use the Student's Compass, the student must have a valid TUNI user ID. The student logs in to the Student's Compass with his or her personal user ID. When logging in, the student's login details (name, email address and TUNI username) are transmitted to the service.
In the Student's Wellbeing and Life Skills course (1 or 2 credits), the student answers wellbeing surveys (initial, end-of-course and follow-up) in the Lime Survey system, which are completed separately during the course. Due to the nature of the course unit, the wellbeing surveys contain information relating to specific categories of personal data, such as health information or information on philosophical beliefs. The data content of the wellbeing surveys includes, for example, surveys on loneliness, exhaustion, psychological resilience, stress levels and health. In addition, background information such as gender, degree programme and life situation is collected to assess the effectiveness of the programme. The LimeSurvey surveys are answered via a personal link. However, the data generated in the system does not allow you to be identified as your personal data is pseudonymised. The wellbeing surveys are used to assess the effectiveness of the programme immediately after completion and in the longer term, in the period following completion. The responses are accessible to the persons responsible for the implementation of the course and the Student Compass team.
A final questionnaire to be completed at the end of the course in the Forms system is also part of the course. The TUNI ID is used to log into Forms. The end-of-course questionnaire is used to verify the completion of the course, i.e., the end-of-course questionnaire serves as proof of course completion. The responses are accessible to the persons responsible for the implementation of the course and the Student Compass team.
The 2-credit version of the course also includes participation in supported wellbeing coaching. Students share their reflections on the Student Compass assignments with their wellbeing coach via Office365 file sharing. The wellbeing coaches are final year psychology students (or Master's students in psychology) at Tampere University. The wellbeing coach is bound by a confidentiality and non-disclosure agreement. The student's responsibility is to destroy the file at the end of the course if he or she wishes. The wellbeing coach has data secure access to the results of the wellbeing surveys (initial and final) of the students he or she trains.
The wellbeing survey results are compiled and communicated in a pseudonymised and statistical manner.
Personal data will be processed for the duration of the course and follow-up (12 months). After the retention period, the personal data will be securely destroyed.
