How is Swedish pronounced in Sweden and how is it pronounced in Finland? In this course, you will improve your knowledge of Swedish pronunciation. You will also have the chance to improve your own Swedish pronunciation with the help of theory and practical exercises. Systematic study of the sound system and word and sentence prosody of Swedish. Comparisons between Swedish as spoken in Sweden and as spoken in Finland, and transcription exercises. Reading of different kinds of texts with varying levels of difficulty.

What you will learn

Upon completing the course, students will be able to describe the pronunciation of Swedish and its characteristics in relation to the Swedish sound system and word and sentence prosody. They will also be able to identify the most important differences of pronunciation regarding Swedish in Sweden and Finland. In addition, students will be able to read, analyse, and produce simple Swedish transcriptions. Students will also be able to produce either the consonant and vowel sounds of Swedish as spoken in Sweden, or those of the Swedish spoken in Finland. In addition, they will be able to accentuate Swedish words, phrases, and sentences according to the recommendations for the chosen pronunciation variant.
