The purpose of the course After attending this course, you will know how food is produced in the field in Finland. You will get to know different crops and production inputs to get an overall idea of arable farming. Course competencies agricultural know-how Course competence You know the characteristics of Finnish arable farming and you are familiar with the regulations of production. You can define different production methods. You will understand the role of arable farming as part of food production and the circular economy. You know the principles of cultivation and you can apply your knowledge of plant growth factors to arable farming, utilizing various production inputs with the goal of a good yield in terms of both quantity and quality. You know how to consider the environment in arable farming. You know the characteristics of different crops from the point of view of cultivation and crop use. You know the biology of different groups of pests so that you can take them into account in your farming activities. You can make a germination test for cereals and calculate the required amount of seed. You identify the growth rates of cereals by knowing what cultivation measures can be taken at different growth rates. You will identify the most important crops and their seeds.
