MAT12001 Basics of statistics and R I

After completing the course unit, the student:

• knows two population testing, analysis of variance, linear regression, goodness-of-fit testing and independence testing in addition to learning outcomes of the course unit Basics of statistics and R I.;
• knows the basic theory of some non-parametric tests and is able to analyse problems related to them, both in writing and using R programming environment;
• knows the fundamental principles of R programming environment, especially parametric and non-parametric statistical testing in practice.

Independent study and exam

The course unit is completed by participating in online teaching. There is no attendance requirement. The teaching consists of various exercises, often with digital submission, self review and peer review.

The course unit can also be completed by studying independently and taking an exam.

Assessment practices and criteria

The course unit is assessed on a grade scale of 0-5 based on self review and peer review verified by a teacher, exercises and/or exam. Points received from these categories are compared to minimum requirements and a separately announced points table.

Activities and teaching methods in support of learning

Learning is supported by exercises and/or exam.

In addition to instruction given by teachers, students are also each other's instructors and each other's exercises' reviewers.

Target groups

The course unit is obligatory for the statistics and econometrics study tracks in the Bachelor's Programme in Mathematical Sciences.

The course unit is also available for other degree programmes.

The course unit is available in the Open University course selection.
