TA1 Basics in Economics

After completing the course, students will understand the functioning of the financial markets and banks, as well as the meaning and structure of the financial system. They will understand the functioning of the stock and debt markets, as well as the determination of interest rates and stock prices. Students will also understand the role of incomplete information in the formation of financial market structures, having also familiarised themselves with the mechanisms of financial crises.

The textbook used is Frederic S. Mishkin: The Economics of Money, Banking and Financial Markets. 13th ed. Global Edition. Pearson. 2022. Chapters 1–13. Additionally, lecture slides and other material announced by the lecturer are used.

The Bachelor’s Programme in Economics is responsible for the course. For major subject students of the Bachelor’s Programme in Economics, the course can be included in the Study Module in Economics (ECOK-500). Students of other degree programmes can include the course in the Study Module in Economics (ECOK-300). The course can also be included in the continuous learning offerings.

The course can be completed at any point of studies, course is not taught every academic year.
