Attachment and Social Relationships among Children at Social Risk
5 cr
The course aims to provide information about the social development of children at risk, who have experienced or are currently experiencing physically and psychologically threatening situations. Modern approaches to understanding the development of such children use the cumulative model of risk factors (e.g. Zeanah & Sonuga-Barke, 2016). Biological predisposition, family environment, and cultural, community, and societal factors all influence a child's functioning and adaptation. The course is taught using parent-child interaction procedures such as PCERA (Clark et al., 1985) and CARE-Index (Crittenden, 2009), as well as the Strange Situation Procedure video clips (Ainsworth et al., 1978). Additionally, longitudinal video observations of children in toddler psychotherapeutic groups and consulting sessions will be used. Various approaches to understanding and evaluating parent-child interaction and attachment will be considered (M. Ainsworth et al., 1978; M. Main, 1990; P. Crittenden, 2009, 2016; Lyon-Ruth, 1999; Beebe et al., 2010).
