Climate Change and Solutions
5 cr
The course examines the manifestations of climate change and, more generally, planetary environmental changes and their origins in organised human activities. The course summarises the material dimension of climate and environmental change mapped by scientific research, but mostly the course focuses on understanding the causes behind these phenomena and the previous and current alternatives for solving the problems. The course delves into the historical development of the structures of human activity and the illumination of their present form. The course delves into the developments that lead to alternative, sustainable ways of organising human activities and social agency through which changes are sought to be implemented. The course is structured as a cross-section of different disciplines, and phenomena are addressed through the themes of global development, world system, world ecology, global inequality, economic growth, debt ratios, dollar hegemony, social movements, climate justice, planetary welfare, and alternative theories and practices of development, among others.
