This study unit is thematic and can cover e.g.: 1) themes that are not covered in other study units such as Islamic art, music, and culture; atheism and/or non-religiosity, etc.; 2) Islam and Muslims in less studied geographical areas; or 3) smaller and less studied forms of Islam and/or religious communities associated with Islam

What you will learn

demonstrate knowledge of the diversity of themes and issues relevant to the study of Islam and contemporary Muslims;
recognize and demonstrate knowledge of new scholarship tackling less studied themes and issues in Islam;
demonstrate critical understanding of why certain subject matters have been less the focus of mainstream scholarship on Islam; write an essay or other form of assignment where student critically reflect on the topic in question.
