The course offers knowledge of grammar in greater depth (incl. past tenses, the subjunctive, pronouns), expansion of vocabulary and exercises in listening comprehension and oral skills.

Topics include work, housing and human relations in modern times, the French-speaking world, new consumption habits, ecology.

Situations where French is used include describing past events, giving advice, and expressing feelings, opinions and objectives.

Intermediate French 2 at the Language Centre or corresponding skills (e.g., 6–8 courses in general upper secondary school).

Recommended skills

It is recommended that this course be completed before Intermediate French 4.

The intermediate courses 3 and 4 are based on the same textbook and constitute a whole.

Completion methods

The course includes 42 hours of contact teaching and 38 hours of independent study.
Diverse study methods are utilised in contact teaching. An extensive amount of discussion exercises in small groups.
Independent study includes essays and online assignments.
Compulsory attendance in contact teaching (at least 75%). Completion of agreed assignments on time.

Assessment practices and criteriaAssessment is based on the learning outcomes. Continuous assessment. The end-of-course assignment can be a project, a presentation or a Moodle examination. Detailed information will be provided at the beginning of the course.

Target groups

Students of all faculties, students with a JOO flexible study right, international students. The course can also be offered as open university education.

The course is suited to students wishing to upgrade their knowledge of French acquired at school by developing further the different areas of language skills.
