The course provides students with the skills required to participate in the Academic and Professional Communication in English course of their own faculty. After completing the course, students will have learned how to:

• use grammatical structures more precisely
• apply theoretical knowledge about the structures of English in their own writing
• identify grammatical structures in various texts and explain the reasons for their use
• feel more confident about their own skills and find it easier to use English.

The course involves 54 hours of work + completion of learning assignments: 12 contact hours + 16 hours of learning assignments + 26 hours of independent work 

The classroom-based sessions include individual, pair and group work.

The Language Centre requires 75% active participation in classroom-based courses and completion of the agreed tasks by the deadline.

Assessment practices and criteria

Assessment is based on the learning outcomes. Passing the course requires active participation and completion of the agreed tasks by the deadline.

The course uses peer, self- and teacher evaluation.

This course is for students of all faculties who need to develop their skills in English BEFORE taking an Academic and Professional Communication in English course. This course focuses on reading, listening and speaking in English.

This course does NOT fulfil the foreign language requirement in the degree.

This course may be offered as an Open University course.
