Attitudes, ideologies and cosmologies (Anthropology)
5 cr
The course aims to provide an overview of how anthropology looks at the human experience and worldview and religious, ritual, and communicative practices, as well as various understandings of knowledge and its formation. Symbolic worldviews, religions, public discourses, and knowledge often appear as institutions that reflect the routines and structures of society. However, they are also stories, interactions, experiments, and communicative practices that help people create new social forms of life and interpret their own position during conflicts and change. Societal change is intrinsically linked to cultural change, and the analysis of cultural worldviews, linguistic practices, experiences in time and space, and forms of knowledge helps to understand the choices and opportunities for action that political, ecological, and economic changes create for the people involved. The course literature focuses on anthropological research on rituals, religions, the production of knowledge, state ideologies, and public discourse.
