After completing the course, students will

• Be able to use French in uncomplicated everyday situations, including the writing of simple messages
• Be able to express themselves, to a degree, in the past (e.g., passé composé) and future tense, both orally and in writing
• Have familiarised themselves with manifestations of French culture and be proficient in, for example, using the most common courtesy phrases
• Be able to understand straightforward speech

A textbook and a workbook, chapter recordings and parcours digital assignments. The product is in the form of a card, obtainable from bookstores, which contains a code for the digital version.

A chapter-specific glossary (French-Finnish-English); Finnish-language grammar presentations and dialogue recordings are available in Moodle to supplement both material options.

Please note: The textbook, workbook and digital card are available in the Keskuskatu store of the Academic Bookstore (Keskuskatu 1) and in the Aleksanterinkatu store of Suomalainen Kirjakauppa (Aleksanterinkatu 15). Not for sale in webstores.

The course has a range of group-specific implementation and completion methods: in addition to attending teaching, students take an examination or complete a series of online review assignments (parcours digital, see group-specific information).

• Depending on the group, the course is organised as a combination of contact or online learning and independent study.
• 42–48 hours of real-time study in a classroom/Zoom and approximately 60–66 hours of independent study
• Active participation (roughly 75% attendance) in lectures and completion of agreed assignments in the time allotted
• Depending on the group, the classroom is traditional or flipped (classe inversée); new content is studied independently before lessons, while in class they are practised in small groups.
• End-of-course examination or a set of independently completed review assignments online

Depending on the group, the course includes a final examination or, instead, a set of independently completed online assignments, through which students review the course content (parcours digital, see group-specific information). In addition, regular work at lessons as well as a couple of written or other assignments.

The course is intended for students who have studied some French; the course is a continuation of KK-RAN005 (French for Beginners 1). For students who wish to review the basics, the Refresher Course in Basic French is recommended.
