● Space Sustainability MOOC is directed to all interested in space. There are no prerequisite requirements. The course is organized by the Academy of Finland Centre of Excellence in Research of Sustainable Space.

● The course provides the student with an extensive and diverse knowledge on the key issues and key challenges related to sustainable usage of space and how satellites can help to solve global societal sustainability problems (e.g., with remotely observing ice coverage and deforestation, allowing better communication, geonavigation). One of the key topics is quickly increasing space debris and how to prevent and remove it. At the same time the student will acquire knowledge on related topics such as satellite technology, manned space flights, space storms, Earth’s magnetosphere and ionosphere, aurora and solar activity. The course also handles several interdisciplinary related topics such as space law, -ethics and politics.

● The course is divided into Introduction and three themes. All themes have their own specific and concrete learning outcomes.
