Advanced studies

This subject provides the opportunity to critically engage key theoretical debates in development studies. Theories of Development is structured into three parts, namely: (i) The Problem of Global Development and Underdevelopment, (ii) Problematic Explanations and Solutions, and (iii) Alternatives. The subject is global in orientation and, hence, references to ‘Global South’ are only used to illustrate uneven geographical development. The ‘Global South’, then, is both a socially-created condition and an analytical approach.
