Philosophy and Public Policy

5 cr

Face-to-face
Advanced studies
Evidence-based public decision-making raises a number of key social and philosophical questions. What is the relationship between scientific authority and democratic decision-making? Should the science used in decision-making be free of authority? To what issues can public authorities legitimately apply scientific knowledge? By what yardsticks and with whose voice should the consequences of measures be assessed? These and many other philosophical questions arise in decision-making on issues such as public health, the environment, development cooperation and social policy.
