Power Electronics

After completing this course, students will be able to:

1. Explain the role of power electronics in various applications.
2. Describe the operation of key power electronic devices, including diodes, thyristors, MOSFETs, and IGBTs.
3. Analyze the operation of half-wave and full-wave uncontrolled and controlled rectifiers.
4. Analyze basic converter topologies (buck, boost, buck-boost, and voltage source inverters) using the switching power pole as a building block.
5. Apply pulse-width modulation (PWM) techniques to synthesize the desired output voltage in converters.
6. Analyze three-phase converter waveforms, including currents, phase and line-to-line voltages, common-mode voltage, active and reactive power, and harmonics.
