Advanced course in statistics and data analytics

Compulsory prerequisites (will be checked when registering to the course): For students of the School of Business: ISM-A1002 Introduction to data analytics (or 30A01100 Introduction to Business Analytics) and 30A02000 Introduction to Statistics . For students not in the School of Business: the aforementioned courses, or the course MS-A0501 (or equivalent).

Upon completing the course, the student

1. Knows how to compute probabilities and moments of random variables and statistical data from their respective distributions
2. Is familiar with the basics of multivariate probability distributions: understands the concepts of conditional and marginal distributions, and their relation to the joint distribution
3. Understands the basics of hypothesis testing, and knows how to implement such tests for statistical data both in theory and in practice, both in the case of ratio and ordinal data. The student is also able to critically interpret results of such tests.
4. Understands the basics of linear regression, both in the single-variable and multivariate case, and is able to apply multivariate regression to relevant statistical problems.
5. Understands the concept of maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) and is able to apply MLE in the case of logistic regression. The student is also able to make inferences based on MLE.
6. Knows the basics of R programming, and knows how to apply R to solve statistical problems as outlined above.
