Geoengineering and georesources

Student understands the basics of raw material supply for society and can list the essential geological natural resources: rock material and water resources, building stones, ore and industrial minerals, processed rock materials (crushed rock for earthworks, aggregates for concrete and road pavement).

Student understands the possibilities of soil and rock as energy source, in storage use and as location of repository of nuclear waste.

Student can describe common field investigation methods in geoengineering and mining (geotechnical drilling in soil and rock, seismic methods, laser scanning, aerial photo interpretation) and construction methods (dredging, excavation of soil and rock, filling etc.).

Student can describe the environmental impact of geoengineering and mining projects. Student recognizes the basics of geoengineering project management and legislation (e.g. qualifications for designers).

Student recognizes the principles of life cycle assessment and recycling of natural resources.
