Open University Route, Materials Science and Engineering, MSc

It is required that you have completed a bachelor’s degree in a suitable field before applying for our Open University Route studies in a master’s programme. You are required to prove your eligibility and submit your degree certificate with necessary attachments related to the route studies you are applying for. Before you can be admitted to the route studies, the faculty will check the suitability of your preceding bachelor’s degree.

Previous education : Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Science (Technology), Bachelor of Science, or other applicable Bachelor’s degree.

Related fields of study of the Bachelor’s degree: Materials science, physical or process metallurgy, ceramic science, polymer science. Mechanical engineering, aero-nautical engineering or other discipline closely related to the programme, with some materials studies included.

Completing the Open University’s Master's route studies allows you to apply for a Master of Science degree programme at Tampere University. By completing a specific Master's route through the Open University, you can apply for admission to the corresponding degree programme at Tampere University. Each route is linked to a particular programme, and eligibility is limited to that programme only. 

Application period for Master's route studies in the academic year 2025-2026 begins on 30 June 2025 at 10.00 and ends 13 July 2025 at 23.59 (UTC+2).

All courses must be completed during a single academic year. Students on the MSc route can apply for the right to study in the degree programme their route studies have followed. A student may be admitted for degree studies after completing the route studies in the required schedule and according to the requirements of the degree programme. Please note that the credits should be visible in the student register on 15 June 2026 in order to be taken into account.
