Politics and Organisations, Study Module

After completing the 35-credit module in politics and organisations, students will be familiar with the principles of various approaches in political science. They will be able to describe key concepts in the study of politics and organisations, as well as identify research topics in the field. Students will be familiar with the basics of the structures and practices of political decision-making in Finland and the European Union and be able to describe central changes related to these. They will be able to identify and compare theoretical viewpoints regarding the public sphere and democracy, as well as key political thinkers and their fundamental tenets. Students will also understand the main content of an increasing number of research areas focused on politics and organisations. They will also have learned to evaluate underlying fundamental differences between different theoretical approaches in greater depth. They will be able to apply what they have learned to the evaluation of research knowledge, societal activity and professional organisations. Students will know how to critically evaluate political decision-making and the exercise of power. Students will have the skills and knowledge required to move on to master’s level studies in politics and organisations.
