Historical and Cultural Game Studies, Study Module

The module is particularly targeted at training experts on games and game culture. It is designed to provide an in-depth understanding of current Game Studies, its traditions, topics, and possibilities, mostly from the multidisciplinary viewpoints of the Humanities. The entity covers the media of both board and video games, as well as the practices of research, gaming, and game design, and prepares the student to deal and work with games and game cultures in general for multiple purposes.

The module divides the topics into an introduction and these three special viewpoints:

  • HISM-G511 Introduction to Game Studies and Analysis, 5 cr
  • HISM-G512 Culture, History and Heritage: Ludologist Perspectives, 5cr
  • HISM-G513 Case Studies: Edutainment and Gamer Perspectives, 5 cr
  • HISM-G514 Game Project: Mechanics and Designer Perspectives, 5 cr
