Introduction to International Relations

The student will know and understand the basic concepts and the most important current debates in international relations. They will have an overall understanding of key theories and themes as well as the historical development of the discipline and its place in the field of social science. The student will also form the ability to recognise themes, questions and problematiques typical to the study of IR.

Kurssi tarjoaa perustiedot kansainvälisestä politiikasta tieteenalana. Se luo katsauksen niin tieteenalan historialliseen kehitykseen kuin sen nykytilaankin. Niin ikään käydään läpi oppialan keskeiset teoriat ja käsitteet. Kansainvälisen politiikan osa-alueista perehdytään etenkin kansainvälistä järjestelmää, ulkopolitiikkaa ja diplomatiaa, sotia, turvallisuutta ja rauhaa sekä globaalia poliittinen taloutta koskevaan tutkimukseen.
