The course examines childhood and youth research traditions and social issues. During the course, research on children and young people’s position, activities and citizenship is considered critically. Society’s actions and its institutions are assessed in relation to children and young people.

Students will know how to seek and assess information about the status, activities and wellbeing of children and young people in Finnish society. Students will be versed in and understand debate based on social research and be able to assess and critically read media views on childhood and youth. Students will understand and be able to use key concepts of childhood and youth research. Students will learn how to develop their groupwork and interaction skills in a digital learning environment and argue their views on themes related to childhood and youth research.
