Spanish Grammar 1 (CEFR A1)

Spanish for Beginners 1 and 2 or corresponding skills

After completing the course, students will

• Be able to conjugate Spanish verbs in the present and past tenses (present perfect, preterite, past tense)
• Be able to analyse the use of past tenses in context
• Be able to talk about past events
• Be able to explain the use of the Spanish ‘to be’ verbs
• Be able to translate Finnish ‘to be’ verbs into the correct equivalent in Spanish (ser, estar, hay, tener)
• Be able to form the present subjunctive in Spanish
• Be able to choose between subjunctive and indicative in the following subjunctive constructs: 1) verbs of emotion and will, 2) verbs of thinking and observation, 3) single-person sentences, 4) maybe sentences
• Be able to identify accusative, dative and reflexive pronouns in texts
• Be able to use prepositions in expressions of time and place

The assessment is based on the teacher’s continuous assessment, self-assessment and peer assessment.

Grade: Pass/fail

Study methods: Independent work and small group work online. Small group work is conducted in writing, for example, in the form of peer feedback. This does not require joint meetings.

The course does not include any scheduled meetings in real time. Instead, the course is completed according to students’ own weekly schedules.
